Sami Law research. In addition to chapters by well-known Scandinavian experts, the collection also comments on the legal situation in Norway, Sweden and Finland in relation to other jurisdictions and indigenous peoples, in particular with experiences and developments in Canada and New Zealand.
The book displays the current research frontier among the Scandinavian countries, what the present-day issues are and how the nation states have responded so far to claims of Sami rights. The study sheds light on the contrasts between the three countries on the one hand, and between Scandinavia, Canada and New Zealand on the other, showing that although there are obvious differences, for instance related to colonisation and present legal solutions, there are also shared experiences among the indigenous peoples and the States.

Despite centuries of colonization, many Indigenous peoples’ cultures remain distinct in their ancestral territories, even in today’s globalized world. Yet they exist often within countries that hardly recognize their existence.
Struggles for political recognition and cultural respect have occurred historically and continue to challenge Native American nations in Montana and S mi people of northern Scandinavia in their efforts to remain and thrive as who they are as Indigenous peoples. In some ways the Indigenous struggles on the two continents have been different, but in many other ways, they are similar.
The authors attempt to increase understanding of how these two sets of Indigenous peoples share important ontological roots and postcolonial legacies, and how research may be used for their own self-determination and future directions.

En samling av oppdaterte tekster om samisk religion, helbredelspraksis og tro redigert av Ellen Marie Jensen. Boken begynner med et kapittel om den førkristne noaidevuohta («sjamanisme»), etterfulgt av en redegjørelse for voldelig forfølgelse av den samiske førkristne livsform på 1600-tallet og 1700-tallet. Deretter blir vi introdusert til læstadianismen, den pietistiske, lutherske bevegelse grunnlagt av Lars Levi Læstadius som fikk fotfeste nord- og lulesamiske områder fra midten av 1850-tallet. Til slutt er den samiske folkemedisintradisjonen tema. With a collection of updated texts on religion, healing practices, and beliefs, this book takes us from the time of the Sámi noaidi («shaman”) up to the present day. The book begins with a chapter on the pre-Christian noaidevuohta («shamanism”), followed by an account of the violent persecution of the Sámi pre-Christian way of life in the 1600s and 1700s. Then we are introduced to Laestadianism, the pietistic, Lutheran movement founded by Lars Levi Laestadius that took hold in the North and Lule Sámi areas in the middle of the 1850s. Finally, we learn about Sámi folk medicine traditions, which continue to exist alongside modern forms of medicine, thus representing cultural continuity and belief in traditional values from the time of the noaidi.Edited by Ellen Marie Jensen.

Duoen Arvvas oppstod etter at Sara Marielle Gaup var vikar i bandet Skáidi for Inga Juuso. Etter at Inga Juuso gikk bort sommeren 2014 hadde hun lagt grunnlaget for videre samarbeide.
Albumet er et unikt og moderne møte mellom Americana og joik. Låtene på plata er egne komposisjoner, sanger og joiker og noen tradisjonelle joiker. Arvvas synger og joiker på engelsk og samisk, musikken og tekstene underbygger og løfter hverandre. Det er lekent, melodiøst og røft.

Ane Hedvig Heidrunsdotter Løvold: The silence in Sápmi – and the queer Sami breaking it
Mastergradsavhandling som undersøker stillheten rundt homofili i Sápmi. Undersøkelsen er basert på tre feltarbeid og åtte intervjuer. Fortielsen av homofile ses på i et historisk perspektiv og utforsker forskjellige aspekter av stillheten rundt temaet i dagens Sápmi. This thesis is an investigation of the silence of queerness in Sápmi, and is empirically based on three fieldworks and eight interviews. The thesis will question the silence within a historical perspective, and explore different aspects of the silence in Sápmi today. The main focus will be on queer Sami in Norway, but will also voice queer Sami from Sweden and Finland. I will therefore include a discussion on the silence in the queer community in Norway, but the main focus will be on the silence in Sápmi. My research will also look into what was revealed when the queer Sami in this thesis break the silence.
