Conflicts are a recurrent theme of this publication; the dispute between the Finnish state and environmental protective Sami over nature conservations policies, the essence of consultations in conflicts regarding natural resource management involving reindeer herders and forestry in northern Sweden, the psychosocial conditions of reindeer herders in
southern Swedish Sápmi where conflicts are a main cause of the stressful situation, and the problematic balance between modern economy and traditional sustenance in the western Kola Peninsula are issues addressed by the authors.

Ungdomsroman. En bestemor forteller sitt barnebarn Sara om sin oppvekst i det markesamiske kjerneområdet i Sør-Troms på 50-tallet. Vi får høre fortellingen om den 12-årige Kristina, som har vokst opp hos sine besteforeldre og bestemorens døvstumme søster. Etter at bestemoren dør blir jentas tilværelse ødelagt etter å ha blitt utsatt for seksuelle overgrep av bestefaren. Vi får etterhvert forklaringen på hvorfor hennes mor rømte hjemmefra og hvorfor tante Lavinia er døvstum. Sentralt tema i romanen er den etniske kulturkonflikten i området. Kristina forstår etterhvert at hun også har samisk identitet og at hun har familie i en markesamisk bygd som hun aldri har hørt om før.
Romanen er gitt ut både på nordsamisk og norsk.
